And we're back, folks!

It's been a few months since I posted - I'm sorry!  School and life pretty much took over all of my time. :c
I just had my last final on Wednesday and so it's now early Spring Break for me~!

I'll be posting soon some new stuff - Gabs & I visited Typo by Cotton On in Fashion Valley mall, and it was really interesting, so expect something about that.  Other upcoming things are updated OOTDs, recent activity/a "places" post, and hopefully a bag meme (I've meant to draw one for a long time, but I'm probably going to just photograph it ( .u.); being out of practice).

I'm going to try to post something new almost every day over spring break - hopefully I can do it~

Finally I also updated the blog design/color theme a little bit - plus a URL change (previously INKYUUBEYTOR).

Till next time~

Update on Water Washing - ONE WEEK LATER! c:

Hi again!

It's been about a week since I posted about washing my face with only water - I actually made a mistake last Wednesday and washed with soap (it was early and I was a bit out of it), so I started over to round out a full week.

I ended up just not using Cetaphil, cleansers etc at all, though I did have to use a bit of oilfree moisturizer in the mornings due to dry winter air.

I managed to follow through to Monday but then I had to wash with Cetaphil.  My skin's somewhat oily during the warm months but for some reason it got pretty oily about 4 days into it.  I actually didn't notice much of a change in terms of acne, though my skin did get very soft and smooth on my cheeks/areas without acne.  The main problem was the pores on and around my nose began to get pretty clogged. :c

So far I've been washing with water in the morning, and then diluted Cetaphil at nights - my skin's still getting the benefit of being pretty soft from the natural oils, without getting any cloggier.  My acne -very- slightly improved, but barely at all...and I actually got 2 very tiny new pimples so I don't think this method works for me. :c
BUT for those who want to try it - I would say it's probably better to wash lightly at night.  There's also the danger that the dirt that accumulates naturally on your face during the day will combine with the built-up natural oils, and cause acne.  (Which is what probably happened to me since I didn't wash at night for a while.)

I would recommend trying this if you already have relatively well-balanced skin.  Personally I would use an oilfree moisturizer anyway, since unless your skin is extremely oily you'll still probably feel a bit dry/tight (especially during winter conditions when the cold air is very drying).  And if you have extremely oily/blackhead or clogged-pore prone skin, it's probably best to switch to a non-harsh cleanser like Cetaphil once a day, rather than washing with only water.

TIP:  If you feel like you want to ease up your face-washing routine but don't want to completely skip the cleanser, it might help to try washing only ONCE a day with a gentle soap-free cleanser.  Using a cleanser at night before bed should rid you of any dirt or dust that accumulated there during the day.  In the morning your face is honestly still clean from last night - so splash a bit of lukewarm water to freshen up and you're ready to go!

Water Tx Update: Day 1

Hello guys! Here's an early stage progress report c:

This morning I took a shower and used only warm water on my face, & pat dry when I got out. My face felt a little bit tight, so I took a peasized drop if oilfree moisturizer and LIGHTLY patted it on to get my skin going.
Then at night I washed most of my face with only warm water, and a very small bit of Cetaphil for around my mouth (hey I had a pretzel and those things can be oily - I don't want to have food oil building up thanks!). I didn't follow up with moisturizer because it didn't feel like I needed any!

So far at the end of the day I noticed my complexion seemed a bit more even than usual, and the bumps on my cheek and forehead less pronounced/protruding. It's just one day so It probably needs more time to show anything significant, but it looks promising!
(I will probably update this again come the weekend so I have something significant - hopefully - to show!)

~~~~
A quick note though - I don't actually know if this is recommended for very oily skin, simply because I haven't read anythig anywhere specifically about an oily skinned person's experience.
It does logically seem like an acne problem / clogged pores may worsen with this routine, but all the reviews I went through were full of people surprised that this didn't happen!
That being said: for you who have majorly oily skin and want to try this, but you're worried that not washing with soap will cause serious shine. It should be okay to pat the excess off with oilblotting paper or tissue or the like, since that won't be unbalancing your skin's pH (which is what we're working for here!).
I get oily around my nose, so what I do is rub gently on my nose instead of just patting dry. It helps remove some oil - just do NOT scrub so hard that you remove all of that natural moisture!
The Water Treatment
Hi guys!  It's been a while since I posted anything, sorry!  Uni's been crazy lately.
I do still plan on doing the streetsnaps thing, but...so far I haven't been able to work myself up to actually -ask- someone if I could take their photo.  (fear of rejection perhaps?)
Meanwhile, I found possible interesting experiments to try!
& an extralong post to make up for being gone!
the water treatment
I've had mild acne & blackheads on my forehead since I started uni in 2008.
Thankfully my acne's not anywhere near the typical inflamed, throbbing, red sort (think Proactive ads);
still it's not the greatest thing to have had it for 5 years on and off and be 21.
I had a brief period in summer 2012, where my skin was pretty much flawless and even toned
for about 3 months...then began breaking out once fall, and school, began.
Since I spend most of the day out of the house, I switched back to a 0.5% salicylic acid cleanser
Just around the end of December I developed small, hard, round "bumps" under my skin - a little cluster of them on one cheek, another on the left of my chin/jaw, and a third cluster on one temple. :c  I was surprised because I thought I was doing pretty well and keeping my face really clean - apparently not?
So pretty much since mid-September I've used everything - Proactive, stronger salicylic acid cleansers, masks, scrubs, etc.    Nothing I've tried yet has worked.  I also tried going back to what I was using in summer, but it was either too oily or something, as it wasn't effective at all and ended up making my face greasy and sticky. :c  (I quit before THAT gave me extra spots to worry about.)
About Proactive... It's a case to case basis.  It has helped my sister immensely - she uses it as soon as she sees anything and it goes away in 1-2 days.  For me, looked like it was working the first week I used it, but from the second time onwards the bumps just seemed to first look irritated, and then not change at all (no spreading though, whew).
However Ace, my boyfriend, on the other hand, is 23 and has quite good skin with only very occasional breakouts, and then only ever one or two spots that disappear within 1-2 days.  Though he did have mild acne during highschool, same as I did.
I asked him what he used to wash, and he said he doesn't soap his face every day - only ever when he showers, & just with a bit of shampoo left after washing his hair.  Super low key routine.  (Also he's not the type to spend a lot of time examining spots in the mirror - less tempted to pick/squeeze at spots.)
This sounded incredibly gross and lazy at the time.
But after reading around on the web and a few books, it seems like this is actually effective - just washing your face with water, and occasionally a gentle/mild cleanser.
Skin has its own natural "acid mantle", which protects against bacteria etc. and allows the skin to maintain its own health.  But of course, if you use soap/cleansers, you're throwing off the pH of this mantle ...or completely washing it off.  And if your cleanser is something for acne (aka super drying), it'll really rough up your skin.
So starting tomorrow I'm going to wash with
ONLY water, morning and night
and use a gentle soapfree cleanser (Cetaphil) every other day.
I don't know about using moisturizer but I'm assuming you probably won't need to, as you'll have your skin's natural oil buildup after a couple of days.  (I'll probably use oilfree Neutrogena for the first day though, to get a head start.)
Now let's consider makeup & water-only washing.
I don't wear foundation/makeup other than eyeliner, so I don't really have to worry that I'll be leaving foundation on my face day..after day...after day, which is a TERRIBLE idea & will almost certainly backfire this whole routine on you.  I'm planning to use oilfree moisturizer to remove the liner, since that's a pretty limited area it shouldn't throw off the water-only routine.
If you're going to try this then I recommend going without foundation/powder for a while!  I know a lot of girls who do use a lot of foundation to cover up their acne, and to have it exposed is pretty embarrassing.
BUT -- if your face clears up from this, then you won't even need to use that makeup anymore - you'll save money on both acne treatments and makeup, AND you'll be naturally glowy and radiant.  Whyever not?!
More info can be found
here
and
here
(it's also called the "caveman" routine/regime, though I doubt Ace knows this)
Besides washing with just water, I basically cut out soda/junkfood/sweets
and anything really fattening.  Also I'm trying to drink more water &
unsweetened tea, + more veggies and not as much meat.
I'll make a small update post day by day as I do this. c:
From what I've read, results show up between a week to 3 weeks,
so hopefully it works out well!
Adminny things c:
Hi guys! I know I said I'd update more but I haven't run across anything interesting lately. Sorry!
That being said I may change the direction of this blog a bit - there's been a rise in snazzy dressers here at my uni, and I'm considering putting street snaps & ootds as the central point. I don't try very many kinds of makeup or washes simply because I made a post on that already, and the stuff I'm using works so I'm not about to change it anytime soon. C:
Please look for changes coming as 2013 gets going!
There haven't been any recent ootd shots for November, partly because I'd forgotten like a silly, and partly because my classes are atm so early that it eventually got difficult to put in time & dress nicely (the ones above are from weekends or when there was a school event).  And it's pretty cold now. |D  So all my cuter clothes are stashed till the spring.
~ Nov. 26 Tip : 1000mg Vitamin C per Day
I've been taking a 1000mg vitamin C capsule every day for about a month now, and it really does a number on clearing up your complexion.  I tend to get a lot of little pimples/bumps on my forehead, and after a week of VC they were half gone.  It also helps a lot with slowly fading dark spots/discoloration/acne scars. c:  It's actually okay and safe to take this amount - vitamin C is water-soluble, which means your body will be able to handle the excess and get rid of it with pee.  Make sure to drink plenty of water with it, both to help the VC go through your body and because water is generally good all over.
(Admin note: Hi, sorry I've been busy and not posted in over a month!  I have a full load of college classes so to keep the blog relatively updated, I'll try to do a daily/every other day tip at least.  There may also be posts about other non-beauty related things to mix it up. c:  P.S.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE.  I hope you had a wonderful holiday.  +Isa)
❦ 2012 Make-up Masterpost + extra tips
The make-up I use/have used pretty much every day, or at least pretty often, this past year. c:
Most of these I've been using for a very long time, a couple are pretty recent.  I tend to NOT use things like liquid foundation or any sort of foundation - my skin doesn't do so great with it and I prefer a natural (& more breatheable) appearance.  There's no eyeshadows here because I haven't used those since I was in a show, and I touch my eyes a lot so they usually come off. c:
USE: daily
RATE: 4 stars
I have had my jar of this since 2008.  I've been using it every day I go out since 2011, not to mention here and there between 2008-2011.  You need only a very very tiny bit, and it makes a beautiful smooth line or smudges wonderfully, whatever you like!  This stuff keeps extremely well and once applied lasts all day, I've only had to do a touch-up if I've scrubbed my eyes REALLY hard on accident.  I've gone swimming, both pool and beach, and it still didn't come off.  The formula is contact-lens safe as well.  $15.00 may seem like a lot for the little jar but trust me, it hasn't dried up or hardened or faded in the four years I've had it.
I bought MAC brush #210 with this, and I've used that brush with the gel liner since.
The only potential problem I see would be keeping bacteria from growing in the container, similar to mascaras and other double-dip type make-up ( trust me you WANT to keep things clean especially if they go anywhere near your eyes).  As long as you wash your brush very well before and after dipping in the jar, and keep the jar tightly closed, it should be perfectly fine.  The woman at the shop also recommended scooping a little gel out onto a plate and using that, rather than dipping directly into the jar.  I do both - keep the brush SUPER clean, and scoop gel out for use - hence I've been able to keep mine for 4 years.
USE: occasional, about 2X a month / special occasions
RATE: 3 stars
I've had my jar of this since 2010, and only use it when I have a photo taken, or for a special occasion or date or such - as I said above I don't really like having a coating feeling on my face.
That said, this is the lightest and least noticeable face powder I've ever used.  I do believe part of bareMinerals' pitch is that their makeup is -good- for your face, but I haven't noticed much nor used it often enough to see an improvement.
It looks extremely natural and makes your skin have a glowy porcelain-ish look (kind of like a dandelion, I don't know how to describe it elsewise |D) without hiding your natural skintone.  It's very very sheer, so it will not fully hide any imperfections or uneven skin tone, but it does a very good job enhancing the good parts of your complexion and blurring any problem parts.  Also it's great to use over a tinted powder, to set it.  It does come off a little easily if you touch your face, as it's a powder and doesn't stick as strongly as foundation.  I usually apply this about 20 minutes after I put on face lotion - your skin is moist enough to help hold the powder in place, but not too much that it clumps up.
USE: a few times a week
RATE: 4 stars
I've been using this mascara since 2010.  I used to use Maybelline lashBlast, but BUXOM's made with more natural ingredients.  (I haven't looked at the recent lashBlast so I don't know if the formula's changed.)
The brush is plastic, and really good - it separates all your lashes out and has no clumps.  It goes on smoothly and easily, and it's easy to control how much mascara gets on the brush (I just scrape the brush on the edge of the tube to remove any extra formula).  I only use one coat, you don't really need two as it just gets thick looking and clumps with the more coats you apply.
The formula claims to thicken/lengthen eyelashes, and I -DID- notice they grew longer the more often I used it (not sure what's in it, maybe conditioner?) , as well as my eyelashes looking darker.  The only downside: it doesn't come in waterproof, so don't get in the pool with these.  Also this is one of the products that I've changed every year I've had it, as I've found it's harder to keep mascara tubes clean - better to be safe!
NOTE:  Personally I prefer non-waterproof mascaras, because I've noticed that waterproof mascara formulas are stickier and more prone to clumping, and look less natural.  Non-waterproof tends to go on more easily as well.  YMMV.
COTY AIRSPUN Face Powder in Suntan: Dark Peach
USE: occasionally; special occasions, shows
RATE: 4.5 stars
I've been using this since before I even got to highschool, up to today; never used any other kind of tinted powder in my life.  My mom and grandmother used this in the past as well - it's been around for a long time.
It's very fluffy and smooth, and extremely light; also one of the few powders I found an exact/almost exact skintone match.  It doesn't cake at all, and it's very easily applied and removed.  I've used this both as a very light powder, and as a thicker coat for stage makeup, and both looked great.  There's a light scent that borders between baby powder and granny perfume - I love it, it smells oldfashioned and like something from the 1920's.  The packaging's lovely too, it's changed a couple times since I started using it.  Inside there's a cellophane and cardboard "seal" that you can remove to use and then put back afterwards.  It's a little bit messy and difficult to open, but it's easy when you get used to it.
The box I have at the moment, I've had for about 2 years (I only got a new box because I dropped the previous one, and that was still half-full after 4 years of use :c).  You only need a little bit at a time, it lasts forever.  It blends in nicely and is nearly as good as foundation at covering up anything you want.  Plus it's almost as light as Mineral Veil, and comes in a LOT of shades (including translucent)...and they're between $4 to $8 for a box.
I've never tried another powder in any other brand that compared to this at all in either quality or price.  Magic in a box, I swear.  Don't knock the "cheap" stuff if you haven't tried it, a lot of the times it -can- be really amazing!
The con: this stuff is majorly hard to track down in stores.  It used to be really easy to find (I got mine at Wal-Mart for $6), but I can't find it anywhere except online anymore. :c  Perhaps it's just in my area.  I prefer not to get skintone things online because it's hard to return them if they look really off.
Maybelline BABYLIPS Lip Balm in Quenched (right)
USE: daily
RATE: 4 stars
I gave this a try when it came out because I've always had horribly chapped lips, which I then bit at, which made it worse and repeated the cycle.  It really does its job well - my lips are much smoother than they've ever been, nothing to nibble off anymore. c:  I *think* they're all SPF 20, which is great - I have Quenched, which has the SPF and something like a fruit-candy-bubblegum smell.  Quenched is clear, which is nice to wear under/over lipstick, but the balm comes in color tints too.
It has a healthy light "gloss" look, although being a balm, which also means it's a little oily; I found it tends to drip a bit on hot days, but it's not terrible.  One application lasts a pretty long while.  I like to put it really thick at night, my lips turn out very soft and plushy when I wake up.
I've had my current tube since around February/March, and it's only half used so not too bad for ~$4.  Hopefully I'll try the peppermint one (also untinted).  It's very easy to find at any drugstore or WalMart.
+++
USE: rarely, special occasions (~3-4X a month)
RATE: 3.5 stars
I've been using this since 2009.  It has a lovely sheer pink (no glitter) tint to your lips, and it really does "match" your best lip color.  I've noticed sometimes if it's very hot it turns out darker than usual, so maybe it changes depending on your body temperature.  It lasted a long time for me because I use this sparingly - it took me 2 years to get through one tube.  I use it as a lipcolor instead of lipstick, it's very prettily glossy and I don't have to worry that I applied too much because it retains the same color depth regardless of how much you apply (unlike lipstick).
My lips do get a little chapped after using this (my aunt has had the same thing happen, but a friend who uses it said it fixed her chapped lips so YMMV).  It's also a bit oily and may drip a little, easily fixed with clear lipliner.
~ extra tips ~
  • Here's the general rules for changing out make-up that I was told at both Sephora and MAC.
    • For "dry" make-up (loose/solid powders, blushes, eyeshadows), it's best to change it after 2 years.  Colored dry make-up like blush and eyeshadow tends to fade a little the longer you keep it.
    • For "wet" make-up (cream eyeshadow/blush, liquid foundations, etc.) best is to change it out after 1 year.
    • For make-up that comes in direct contact with your lips/eyes (lip balms, lipsticks, gloss, mascara, eyeliner sticks), it can last 6 months or less depending on how much you use it and how you use it.
    • ***My personal rule is to simply take very very good care of your make-up and tools.  Use it carefully and keep it and your tools as clean as you can manage - common sense things!  You can get the most out of your make-up that way.  Regardless, if the make-up is obviously "off" or in any sort of bad condition, by all means *stop* using it and change it out; your health is way more important. c:
  • Pay attention to how your make-up looks/feels/smells.  Mascara especially is prone to causing some nasty eye infections, so know what your stuff's SUPPOSED to look like!
  • If you want to thin out a make-up by adding water, do *NOT* add it straight into the original container.  The water may not necessarily be clean, and can give bacteria a chance to grow in a nice, damp, dark, safe container.  (Can't stress the mascara thing enough, plenty of girls in my theater group got pinkeye/eye irritation by adding water to revive dry mascara.)
  • When using gel liners, it really helps a lot with application if the brush is slightly damp.  The liner glides on much more smoothly and more defined looking, and it's much easier to create winged or cateye shapes.
♬ Hatoful Boyfriend Otome Game
  It's an otome game best explained by this post.  Basically it's a dating sim game, where you're the only human attending a prestigious birds-only school.  Hato = Japanese for dove, and all your potential love interests are pigeons.  Interesting concept, no?  c:  The explanation link also has links to the demo and english patch for the game (thank thank Ava, if I didn't see this on your page I wouldn'tve been weirded out enough to try it~).  From what I read, even though the pigeon thing is a little out there, the plot itself is pretty good - worth a shot!
  The link above is for the demo free version - the full version has more storylines/endings, and more characters.  It's $5~ (which I am too poor for, sobsob), but if the free version appeals to you then that's a pretty good price to get the total package!
To install the english patch:
  1. go here
  2. download the demo from the JP site (1st link)
  3. download the english patch from the 2nd link
  4. unzip both folders
  5. replace the read.me and src.fwd in the JP game, with the read.me and src.fwd from the PATCH
  6. make sure you have Quicktime 7
  7. make sure your System Locale is set to JAPAN/JAPANESE
    1. WINDOWS: Start Menu > Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Region and Language > go to Administrative tab > Change System Locale > select Japanese (Japan) > restart to apply changes
  8. Run the game!  Good luck~
